The Tree of Life

OK so it is time for the switch, Gloria and I agreed this would be a bilingual conversation between two cities so after 5 months maybe it is time it happened. Last weekend we managed to get through 139min of Terrance Malick´s The Tree of Lifeand in all honesty the first 30min almost lost me. About 6 people walked out of the theater and I was tempted to do so myself. At this point I remembered my 40 day yogic journey and decided to make this a part of it, as an exercise in enjoying the NOW. Breath in, and slowly breath out, breath in and slowly breath out, one more time breath in and slowly breath out while chanting to a very extended and silent oooooooooooooommm! That is all it took, for me to stop expecting anything typical from this film. We are so used to everything being spoon fed to us and even at times digested for us. In a way we are used to the media telling us what to think, feel and like. This film is incredibly liberating sine it just IS the most original film I have ever experienced and after getting used to its very particular format it was an amazing experience and beautiful to its core. The fact that it won at the Cannes film festival gives me hope for this event and restores all its credibility as stage for ground breaking film makers around the globe. Will not say anything else about this film since its story line only makes you expect something that it is not. To top it all off I will not even take the responsibility to recommend it, but would love to thank Terrance Malick for such a gem.

Guillaume Canet ok y Marion Cotillard perfecto.
